Saturday, 13 October: Magellan – Circumnavigation – written and composed by Bob Whitley and performed by Bob Whitley and Lee Cuff
A musical story of love divided by the greatest voyage of exploration the world has seen.
On the 19th of August 1519 Ferdinand Magellan and his 260 crewmen set sail from Spain in five small ships on the greatest voyage of human exploration ever undertaken. At this time sailors believed in gigantic sea monsters, demons, boiling seas – and that the earth was flat. Leaving their wives and families behind to wait in hope and pray for their safe return, they faced almost certain death. Their greatest fear was falling off the edge of the earth.
This should be a wonderful evening. Do tell your friends – we need a really good turnout for this. Bob has chosen Wimborne St Giles Village Hall as the first venue on his tour! I will be reminding you in future Round Robins but do put the date in your diaries and SPREAD THE WORD!
Saturday, 3 November : An event to commemorate the centenary of the ending of WW1
Another date for your diaries. This event will combine photos and artefacts from local sources, singing by ‘The Songbirds’ – WW1 songs to sing along to, and refreshments using recipes from the time.
If you have any photos or clothing from WW1, which belonged to members of your family and that you would be happy for us to put on show, please let me know.
Do come along. Proceeds will be divided between the Village Hall and a military charity – Help for Heroes or similar. Yours support would be greatly appreciated! Spread the word to friends far and near!
